I was reading Katrine Watkin’s “Return of the Google Game” in the May 2008 edition of the School Library Journal, and I thought the game was a great way of helping students hone their skills as online researchers.

According to the article, the rules go like this:

Students are paired off and given fifteen minutes to find the answer to a research question that is given by the librarian or teacher.

Students record the search terms that they used to arrive at their answer, and the goal of the team is to have the correct answer and the fewest number of hits.

Some of the research questions used by Watkins include:

What does Donald Duck have to do with the golden ratio?

What is the Latin name of the tree named for Princess Diana?

How is the Inventor of White Out related to the band The Monkees?
